A Full Service for a car — also known as a “Major Service” — is a detailed automotive maintenance check that inspects all critical systems and components of a vehicle to ensure that it is functioning correctly.

A Full Vehicle Service is designed to ensure that each of the core elements of a vehicle’s operating system are safe and functional.

During a Full Motor Vehicle Service, a technician typically performs a series of thorough checks including (but not limited to): fluids, brakes, suspension, lights, wipers, and battery health. While inspecting these major features of a vehicle, the technician carrying out the Full Service will check their condition, inspect them for any signs of wear and tear, and provide recommendations, repairs, or replacements (where necessary).


What is the difference between a Full Service and a Major Service?

A Full Service and a Major Service are both thorough forms of auto maintenance that assess the quality and condition of a car’s major parts. They also both aim to maintain a vehicle's optimal running condition; however, they differ when it comes to scope, depth, and timeframe.

While a Full service is a type of motor service typically carried out annually that looks at a car’s core features, Major Services are much more exhaustive and include more in-depth checks. As such, the recommended intervals between Major Services are more likely to be 24 months (or every 24,000 miles) — whichever is sooner.

What does a Full Service for your car include?

When you bring your car in for a Full Vehicle Service at Kwik Fit, you can expect a thorough inspection of all core elements including the vehicle interior, the vehicle exterior, a pre-alignment check, the area under the bonnet, and under the vehicle.

What’s more, a Full Service of your car at Kwik Fit also includes the replacement of any service items (where necessary).

At Kwik Fit, a Full Service includes all items included in the Interim Service package plus a thorough inspection of your engine and a full brake inspection. A Major Car Service also includes an air filter and extensive checks of items under the bonnet including brake, fuel and radiator pipes and hoses, power steering fluid and auxiliary drive belt adjustments (if required).
