BTCC 2025: Top 5 Things To Look Out For

The start of the 2025 British Touring Car Championship season is not far away now, and we are excited to be back at the track with all of you. This year sees some rule changes to the Jack Sears Trophy and the switch from hybrid power to 100% sustainable, so we’re sure there will be plenty to talk about throughout the season.

Whether you’re a long-standing fan or you’re new to the sport, we have put together our top 5 things to look out for in 2025 - ensuring you never miss a moment of the action.

1. Hill vs Ingram

2024 was undeniably entertaining, whether you’re a die-hard fan of one driver or a neutral who simply loves motorsport. Jake Hill and Tom Ingram, along with contenders like Ash Sutton, had us on the edge of our seats. And this year is set to be the sequel. 

Hill came out on top last year in an epic showdown at the final round of the season, but can Ingram bring the challenge to him this year? Or will the drivers at Napa create a tougher fight for the pair? We don’t know the answers just yet, but we do know that we are excited to watch how they get on.

2. Gordon Shedden's return

There are only a few legends of the BTCC, and when Colin Turkington announced he would not be returning for a full season in 2025, this left many fans disappointed. But when the triple champion, Gordon Sheddon, decided he was ready to make his return, fan sentiment took a turn for the better. 

Shedden won the 2012, 2015 and 2016 BTCC championships, and has finished either first, second or third 8 times throughout his career. He left the sport in 2017, re-entered in 2021, and took another short break for two seasons. 

TOYOTA GAZOO Racing UK with IAA have signed the Scotsman for 2025, and as one of the most successful BTCC drivers out there you can never count him out when it comes to a good battle, pole position, podium or race win.

3. One Motorsport are back

The grid for 2025 is stacked full of great teams and drivers, and this year we see a team make their return after one year off. One Motorsport are back with the Honda Civic Type R’s and have Josh Cook and Stephen Jelly ready to get behind the wheel. 

The Brackley-based team has had success in the past, winning both the BTCC Independent Drivers’ and Teams’ Championships in 2022. This year they plan on recreating some of those achievements, and are definitely a team to look out for as the championship moves away from hybrid power.

4. Future BTCC contenders

The future of BTCC looks good in the hands of the rookies and young contenders entering this year. 

Alongside Hill and Moffat at WSR are Daryl DeLeon and Charles Rainford. DeLeon competed last year with Unlimited Motorsport and proved he had great speed in his first season, now making the switch to the BMW. Rookie Rainford is looking to make his mark in the BTCC this year, having taken part in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB for the last 4 seasons, winning the Pro-Am championship in 2022.

TOYOTA GAZOO Racing UK with IAA may have Shedden, who has unquestionable talent and ability, but they have also provided James Dorlin his first opportunity to race in BTCC. He comes across from British GT, having proven himself a winner by taking the Silver-Am title in 2022. Dorlin will be looking to bring that pace in his Toyota.

Finally, Unlimited Motorsport enter the season without DeLeon, but bring a good line up of Nic Hamilton, Dexter Patterson and 18-year-old Max Hall. Hall had an impressive year in the Mini JCW Championship (a BTCC support race) where he secured a rookie title and finished second in the overall drivers standings. The team recognised his serious pace behind the wheel and have given him an opportunity to race in bigger machinery.

5. The Kwik Fit stand
