Tune Into Tyre Safety

You may not already be familiar with Tyre Safety month, now’s a good time to take a look. Created by leading UK tyre safety charity, TyreSafe, the campaign runs during October. Since its creation in 2006, TyreSafe has contributed to a 44% decrease in tyre related casualties by informing drivers of the importance of regularly checking your tyres.
As you might expect from a leading member of the tyre industry, Kwik Fit
are an active supporter of the charity
and their tyre safety message. This is also true of some of our partners in
the tyre industry, including leading premium tyre manufacturer, Continental. Both of our organisations
are constantly campaigning through TyreSafe to ensure that driver are as informed about tyre safety as possible. TyreSafe
discovered that over half of drivers are driving on dangerous tyres demonstrating the importance of spreading the tyre safety message.
This year, Tyre Safety Month will actively encourage drivers to Tune Into Tyre Safety, and complete regular tyre checks. The campaign provides guidance on the importance of checking for tyre damage, tyre pressures and tread depth. TyreSafe have created a collection of leaflets and posters with tyre advice which can be downloaded for free. A tyre safety video has also been created inspired by the song, Get Into The Groove.
Tune Into Tyre Safety follows on from TyreSafe’s recent Summer Driving campaign, and Department for Transport (DoT) data that identifies that most tyre-related road accidents take place in July, closely followed by the month of June. This data contradicts the previous belief that most incidents that most road safety incidents take place between October and March.
This research highlights the need for UK drivers to regularly inspect their tyres throughout the year. As tyres are fundamental for driver safety, it is important not to take their condition for granted. Regular inspections mean that potential damage is spotted earlier and drivers are less likely to be driving on poorly maintained tyres.
